The Humanities curriculum at Aso British School empowers students to understand the people, places, cultures, and ideas that have shaped our world. Through the study of history, geography, religion, government, and politics, learners develop critical thinking, empathy, global awareness, and an appreciation for diverse perspectives. Our approach encourages students to ask meaningful questions, analyse evidence, evaluate differing viewpoints, and become informed, responsible citizens capable of contributing positively to their communities and the wider world.

History enables students to explore significant events, influential individuals, and civilisations that have shaped human development across different periods and regions. By examining historical sources and interpreting evidence, learners gain an understanding of cause and effect, continuity and change, and the lessons history offers for the present and the future. Students are encouraged to think critically, challenge assumptions, and appreciate the rich heritage of both Nigeria and the wider global community.

Geography helps students develop a deeper understanding of the Earth’s physical landscapes, human populations, and the complex relationship between people and their environment. Learners investigate topics such as climate, ecosystems, urbanisation, natural resources, sustainability, and global development through map work, research, data analysis, and field studies where appropriate. The subject equips students with the knowledge and skills to understand contemporary environmental challenges and promotes responsible stewardship of the planet.

Religious Studies encourages learners to explore the beliefs, values, traditions, and ethical teachings of major world religions while fostering mutual respect, tolerance, and intercultural understanding. Students examine moral and philosophical questions, reflect on personal values, and appreciate the role of faith and spirituality in shaping individuals and societies. Through open discussion and thoughtful enquiry, learners develop empathy, integrity, and respect for people of different beliefs and backgrounds.

Government & Politics introduces students to the principles of governance, democracy, citizenship, law, and public administration. Learners study political institutions, constitutions, electoral systems, leadership, human rights, and international relations, gaining a deeper understanding of how governments function and how citizens participate in shaping society. By analysing current affairs and political systems, students develop informed opinions, leadership skills, and an appreciation for civic responsibility and democratic values.

Across all Humanities subjects, students are encouraged to become thoughtful, compassionate, and globally aware individuals who appreciate cultural diversity, respect differing viewpoints, and understand their role in building a more just, peaceful, and sustainable society. Through enquiry, discussion, research, and reflection, our Humanities curriculum prepares learners to navigate an increasingly interconnected world with confidence, integrity, and purpose.
